Will Dan Gilbert be the new owner of Chelsea Football Club?
Dan Gilbert already has so much to do here in Detroit, and sources very close to the Chelsea Football Club situation say Gilbert has now thrown his hat in the race for a shot at ownership of the popular side.
“A Detroit owner in the locals league seems pretty cool,” said Erik Olson, Thomas Magee’s bar owner.
Sources familiar with the offer report indicate that Gilbert and Rock Entertainment Group would now join in the bid to buy Chelsea Football Club, the European football team in the English Premier League.
Currently, Gilbert is said to have decided to team up with Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family and billionaires Ken Griffen – investing in a bid to buy the team.
Olson used to watch Chelsea Football Club games at his bar, Thomas Magee. He says everything is going very fast.
“It seems to be going pretty fast. There are four finalists left,” Olson said.
Gilbert is already a major developer here in Detroit, being the owner of Cleveland’s Cavaliers and Monsters. Now he has the chance to extend his reach across the pond. Although it’s not necessarily something that hasn’t been done before.
“There are a lot of American owners in this league and there are a lot of multi-sport owners in this league as well,” Olson said.
There is no exact amount how much exactly his bid is. But according to SKY NEWS, final offers are now due on April 11.
Detroit fans like Tiffany Peete are excited about the potential purchase, but how should fans overseas react to the news?
“A lot of them support American owners who have proven themselves in other sports and are committed to the teams there, and I think Gilbert would be there too,” Peete said.
We’ll have to see what happens as there are four other credible teams also hoping to buy the team.
