Pokemon Sword and Shield: How to get Shiny Galarian Zapdos and Moltres

Pokemon Sword and Shield is offering Shiny Galarian Legendaries as rewards for its March and April International Challenges.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is hosting two more online competitions in March and April, and players will receive a special reward for participating. Everyone who participates in the events will receive shiny versions of Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres, making this the only way to get these two shiny Legendary Pokémon in the games. Here’s when the competitions take place and how to register.

When are the March and April International Challenges?

Shiny Galarian Zapdos will be the reward for the March International Challenge. Players can register for this event from February 24 to March 10while the competition itself will take place March 11-13.

Shiny Galarian Moltres, meanwhile, will be the reward for the April International Challenge. Registration will take place from March 31 to April 14with competition from April 15-17. You will only receive the Legendary Pokémon if you participate in at least three battles during each online competition.

How to register for International Challenges

To register for online competitions, launch your copy of Pokemon Sword or Shield during the registration period and follow these steps:

  1. Press X to open the menu
  2. To select VS
  3. To select Battle Stadium
  4. To select Online competitions
  5. To select Find official competitions and join the international challenge of that month

Keep in mind that you won’t be able to enter a contest once it’s live; you must register before the end of the registration period. As mentioned, you too must participate in at least three battles during specified competitions to receive the Legendary Pokémon. The monsters will be distributed afterwards via the Mystery Gift function. Note that you will need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to participate in online battles.

Pokemon Sword and Shield launched in November 2019 and was a big commercial success for Nintendo. According to the company’s latest earnings report, the games have collectively sold nearly 24 million copies, making them the second best-selling pair of titles in the series’ history. Two new main games, Pokemon scarlet and violetare set to launch on Nintendo Switch later this year.
