The Kansas Jayhawks blasted the Baylor Bears a few weeks ago at home, something college basketball odds experts have fully kept in mind heading into this game. The reason Kansas is ahead of Baylor in the Big 12 race and in the battle for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament is because the Jayhawks have been a healthier group this season. Baylor lost forward Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua for the remainder of the season, and the Bears have been missing Jeremy Sochan, Adam Flagler, LJ Cryer and other players for varying periods of time this season. Scott Drew’s team was the last Division I men’s varsity basketball team to lose a game this season, but then injuries struck. He hasn’t been able to field a fully intact squad for the past two months. Baylor didn’t play so badly that they were decimated by a steady stream of injuries. Kansas wasn’t damaged in the same way, and the Jayhawks generally took advantage.
Kansas didn’t top the competition in the rugged and contentious Big 12, but they edged it out with some late rallies and critical time displays of considerable quality. Kansas lost five to Texas Tech in overtime but rallied to win. KU picked up a last-minute win at Oklahoma and also narrowly beat Iowa State at home. The Jayhawks have been very good in late game situations, something to keep in mind when making a Kansas Baylor prediction. Ochai Agbaji has been a superb late-game scorer for Kansas, helping big man David McCormack lead a balanced roster that also includes Arizona State transfer Remy Martin.
Baylor may be shorthanded without Tchama Tchatchoua and LJ Cryer constantly stoned, but the Bears know how to fight. They trailed Oklahoma State by seven on the road at halftime earlier this week but fought back to win in overtime. Baylor doesn’t have a cloth offense at the moment, but Scott Drew’s teams regularly play great defense and take care of the boards. This will keep them close and make a Kansas Baylor pick harder to come by.

Why Kansas might be covering up the spread
The Jayhawks once took advantage of a shorthanded Baylor team. They can certainly do it twice. They’re not playing against a full-fledged opponent, and that obviously has significance.
Why Baylor could cover the spread
The Bears can still play quality defense and rebound and upset Kansas. They’re home, they want to avenge the loss to KU earlier in the season, and they’re still a very strong team, vying for a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Prediction and choice of the Kansas-Baylor final
Kansas is the healthiest team, but the Jayhawks have lived well this season, consistently winning narrowly in games when they weren’t playing particularly well. It looks like the laws of averages are sure to catch up with KU, and Baylor will try to make a statement at home even without some of their key players.
Kansas-Baylor Final Pick: Baylor -2.5
