All five are currently undertaking modern apprenticeships in electronic fire and security systems and combine their education at the college’s state-of-the-art security center at its Kirkintilloch campus with on-the-job training.

The quality quintet will be among 36 finalists selected as the next generation of talented engineers showcasing their skills to thousands of industry professionals every day.

John McCusker, head of construction and technology trades at New College Lanarkshire, told Lanarkshire Live: “Congratulations to the five students for reaching this stage of the competition and a very sincere thank you to the employers and staff involved in preparing and support for this one event.

“We wish you all the best for the next step in showcasing your talents.”

The winners of Engineers of Tomorrow will compete in the national final of the prestigious WorldSkills UK (WSUK) event in November.

For the first time this year, electronic security and fire alarm competitions will be represented at the WSUK.

The Engineers of Tomorrow competition is part of the IFSEC International 2022 security industry conference, being held for the first time since 2019.

Staff from NCL’s Electronic Fire and Security Systems team recently attended the Security Twenty 22 conference and exhibition at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow to learn about the latest technology in the industry.
