Danny Cowley provides updated news of the Portsmouth team before the shock of Fleetwood Town League One

Portsmouth head coach Danny Cowley has provided a squad news update ahead of the League One clash with Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon.

Pompey will feature in the encounter with the Cod Army this weekend in the reverse leg of the season opener, with Lee Brown’s second-half strike securing a 1-0 win for Danny Cowley’s side .

Going into the first of three home games in the space of a week, Pompey is currently on a three-game winning streak following victories in the English third tier against Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers and Shrewsbury Town.

Ahead of the match, midfielder Joe Morrell is set to return to the senior squad after a three-match suspension, which should bring the number of senior players available for the Blues to 17.

“Fortunately, we got through what was needed pretty clearly,” Cowley said.

“We are short in numbers but we have big hearts and are looking forward to the game.

Former Blues striker Ellis Harrison has scored twice since joining Fleetwood on a permanent basis last month and is set for a return to his old turf.

Meanwhile Callum Johnson, on loan to Fleetwood from Pompey, is ineligible due to EFL loan laws which prevent players on loan from playing against their clubs on loan.
